Volunteers! Please Join us!
Friday, February 21st AT 5:30pm
CLK School Multipurpose Room
Join us for important training for our volunteers at the the Multi Purpose Room at the Calumet School. Learn how to work crossings, handle dogs, and important safety information.
Tom Bauer from Otter River Sled Dog Training Center will be at the training along with members of the Mushing Club at Michigan Tech. They will have teams of dogs so that volunteers can learn how to handle bringing the teams to and from the start and finish at each checkpoint.
The first hour will be indoors where training will take place on the do’s and don’ts at road crossings, plus much more. The last hour will be outdoors doing the actual dog handling. Dress appropriately for the outdoor portion as volunteers will have hands on experience with actual sled dog teams.
The volunteer training is also where the individual crossing coordinators will pick up their supplies for the weekend. If you are a crossing coordinator and cannot attend, arrangements can be make with Krissy to pick up supplies.
